Blaketheman1000’s latest, ‘City of Careless Angels‘, is a high-speed chase through the psyche of a man who definitely spends too much time on Twitter but makes it sound like high art. Listening to this album feels like being cornered at a party by the funniest, most self-aware guy you know, the kind who has a lot of “theories” about the East Village but actually has the hooks to back them up. It’s the perfect sonic companion for the exact moment the weather hits 65 degrees, and I finally switch to my true personality: a madman who drinks far too much iced coffee and is constantly vibrating.
The record hits its stride with “Baby Grand”, a track so catchy it almost makes you forget you’re listening to a meta-commentary on lifestyle aesthetics. Blake oscillates between genuine sincerity and a “too cool to care” shrug, creating a vibe that pairs perfectly with a classic black iced coffee from Daily Bird or Anodyne. “Reno Moon” stands out as a masterclass in his signature deadpan delivery, providing the ideal soundtrack for walking down the street with an iced latte with cinnamon and oat milk from Cactus Club, feeling significantly more badass than I actually am.
By the time you reach “Temple City”, the vision is clear: Blake has crafted the ultimate anthem for people who romanticize their own minor inconveniences while sipping a signature iced coffee from Cafe Le Crème Brûlée (thanks to my buddy Ian for recommending this one). It’s a bright, punchy, and unashamedly fun project that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is exactly why it works so well. If you’re looking for an album that understands the absurdity of modern life but still wants to dance about it, this is the one you’ll be keeping on repeat all summer.
