After a long eight-year wait since Honey, pop’s favorite Swedish innovator returns with Sexistential, officially dropping on March 27, 2026. This ninth studio album is a high-speed collision of past and present, trading the soft meditations of her last record for a “spaceship crash-landing” back into the punchy, ecstatic pop of the Body Talk era. The title track, “Sexistential,” is an audacious “manifesto about the body” in which Robyn raps about the unique challenges of dating while undergoing IVF—a bold creative choice inspired by André 3000’s comments on the hilarity of middle-aged rapping. With a “babymaker’s got twenty in the clip, ready to fire,” the song is a funky, off-kilter triumph that proves her experimental edge is sharper than ever.

The album further shines with “Talk to Me,” a classic Max Martin collaboration that blends “Every Heartbeat” nostalgia with modern, hypnotizing danceability. Written during the pandemic when physical connection was impossible, its lyrics, “I like talkers, that turns me on,” serve as a playful ode to communication and digital intimacy. Meanwhile, “Dopamine” delivers the ultimate “sad banger,” balancing melancholy and euphoria for those sophisticated emotional breakdowns on the dance floor. Robyn even revisits her roots with a high-tempo reworking of her 2002 track “Blow My Mind,” transforming an old favorite into a “punk” celebration of motherhood and new life.

As a nod to my own Scandinavian roots, this release feels like the ultimate occasion for a toast. Growing up with a mother from Denmark, aquavit was a constant in our house, the spirited centerpiece of every major celebration. There’s no better way to honor Robyn’s Swedish brilliance than by heading to Cactus Club for their kick-ass Aquavit Dirty Martini, made with Aalborg Aquavit, olive brine, and orange bitters. On March 27th, I’ll be raising one of those martinis to the speaker, celebrating a return that is as potent and refreshing as the spirit itself. Robyn is truly amazing, and Sexistential is the vibrant, nine-track journey we’ve all been waiting for.
