It is truly a full-circle moment to see Johnny Society return with such a strong showing in 2026. At OKR, we’ve been championing their sound since our very first streaming radio shows back in the late 90’s, when tracks like the hypnotic “(Soul) Invite Me” and the raw, acoustic-driven “Everyday” from their breakthrough album ‘Wood’ first hit our airwaves. Decades later, that same grit and melodic soul are front and center on Hope Machine.

The album feels like a natural successor to the gritty, experimental charm of their earlier work like the album ‘Clairvoyance‘, but with a polished, melodic ambition that suggests a band comfortably leaning into their “classic” status. Kenny Siegal captures a warm, analog texture that makes every instrument feel tactile. While the lead singles have already made waves, a true standout on the record is the track “In the Light of the Machine,” which perfectly encapsulates the band’s ability to blend soaring, Beatles-esque hooks with a distorted, garage-rock snarl. It’s a song that feels both nostalgic and entirely urgent, anchored by Gwen Snyder’s melodic bass lines and Brian Geltner’s inventive drumming.

‘Hope Machine‘ is a testament to the band’s longevity and their refusal to play it safe. After all these years, they haven’t lost the ability to surprise us, offering a flicker of defiant optimism in an increasingly distorted world. It is, quite simply, a fantastic addition to their storied discography and a record we are incredibly excited to keep spinning here at the station.
