Spokane, Washington’s finest musical export, has officially broken the audio matrix. Hailing from the gloomy, grunge-soaked Pacific Northwest before transplanting her genius to Los Angeles, Deb Never has crafted an absolute kick ass record with ‘ARCADE‘. The record is a musically majestic of moody, nostalgia-laced alternative pop that feels like a neon-lit house party happening inside a foggy, desolate warehouse in the middle of the woods.
Deb Never delivers vocals that feel like they’re being whispered through a tin can phone with the wire connected directly to your heart and mind, while the downtempo rhythms hit with the precision of a woodpecker on a big ole bag of cocaine. Spinning this record had me chillin on the couch on a Wednesday night and kick back a couple of gummies, consuming a plethora of snacks, and playing Red Dead on mute, while taking in all these smooth bedroom indie-pop tunes.
For the real heavy hitters that’ll turn your brain into a lava lamp, you have to blast “KNOW ME BETTER”, which feels like a slow-motion car crash made of silk and heartbreak. Then there’s “DIZZY”, a track that genuinely makes the room spin in a playful drug haze, and “are you out of your mind?”, which is the undisputed heavyweight champion of “staring out a rainy window” anthems. ‘ARCADE‘ is a chaotic masterpiece that proves you don’t need GPS when the vibes are this impeccable. All in all… just give this album a spin… you won’t be disappointed. It’s really fucking good.
