Having grown up in Indiana years ago before escaping to Chicago in the 90s, I have always enjoyed hearing about great music coming from the state… whether it be from Bloomington, Lafayette, or, in this case, Indianapolis, with the band Wishy. I spoke with my buddy Sam at Cactus Club one night, and he told me to give this whole album a spin, as I had only heard one song off it. So, here is my journey through their album ‘Nature’s Pill‘. Fucking shit balls… this album is solid as hell!! They have power-pop hooks, shoegaze textures, and some of that sunny ’90s alt-rock energy that just had me grinning and bouncing around my apartment. I felt fucking good… and whatever pill they gave me when I gave this album a spin was kicking in nicely from the first track on. Wishy is co-fronted by Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites, and this kick-ass group is a ray of sunshine on these overcast days, with romantic optimism that spurts love and joy across all 12 tracks.

Some here I am again… writing a review, and as you all know, I talk about three songs upon my first listen that are a must-listen for all of you to check out…. what the fuck?! This album has more than three for sure, but here ya go. The first song to check out is the very first on the album, “All The Rage,” which has that jangly guitar goodness that will have you dancing around the house, singing along to “I don’t care anymore now that you’re gone.” This song is gonna be on my work playlist for sure. So fucking good. OK… next up, the song “Sensational,” which is another carefree, danceable sing-along track that lives up to its name with driving basslines, crunchy guitars, and an effortlessly catchy-ass chorus. Well…. here’s another one for ya… “Mona Lisa”, a killer acoustic-driven groove that has that dreamy phase kinda psychedelia indie rocker kinda vibe. I’m sure you all will have some other songs off here that will float your boat… but hey… this was my first listen picks.

‘Nature’s Pill‘ is a fun fucking record, filled with great songwriting, excellent hooks, and great harmonies. I really think you NEED to give it a spin. Why?…. Wishy rules… and if you don’t like fun… then you can kiss my entire ass. I’m hoping to catch them live when they come to town and buy the record, since I don’t think I’ll be working that day, but I have put the links below for those of you who can’t make the show. Yet another great band recommendation from buddy Sam… damnit man… love ya, buddy.

Here are the details to their show coming up:

DJ John B likes beer and live music. Sometimes he makes weird culinary choices after said beers. Sometimes his reviews make sense. We love him anyway.
