Milwaukee’s indie dream popsters Creature Weather‘s debut album, ‘Moonlight Regions‘ has been out since July and we have been way behind on reviews lately so bare with us. After releasing single after single since 2024, and we are OKR can’t get enough, now we have this 13 track 55 minute album that makes you feel like you’re floating around on a magic carpet ride of experimental pop sensibilities with lush, warm ambient textures. This duo made up of Tad Jameyfield and John Doyle are making a bigger sound that you could imagine with sounds reminiscent to the likes of Tame Impala, Panda Bear, and Animal Collective… along with those killer Beach Boys-esque harmonies throughout as well. The whole album sparkles with creativity from one track to the next.
‘Moonlight Regions‘ has so many distinctly different fun and playful songs so it was hard for me to pick out three songs that hit harder than others. I mean…. this made me want to break out the gummies again and just lay in my couch with my headphones on. So….. thats what I did. Here are the three tracks that really brought it home for me from just giving it one solid spin. “Stony Island Drive” lets you know what your in store for with that inviting tone that gives ya give ol’ fluffy hug with its catchy instrumentations… also…. having grew up in NW Indiana and taken the skyway to Chicago… Stoney Island was our stop get off to Chicago…. Harolds Chicken is right over there. I fucking miss that chicken and fries… damn. Next up, “Midwest Tropical” infuses a power packed, electro-delic piano energy into the middle of the tracklist. Near the end of the this surreal journey through all those pink and purple fluffy clouds, “Boundary Waters” makes you feel like your in a nice big hot tub that is being heated by the cosmos and makes you feel ok with just letting go….. “The sky cries for you The sky cries for you.” Hell yeah baby.
Moonlight Regions is one hell of a debut album, and it simply makes me wonder if Creature Weather is gonna blow up when everyone finally gets the art they are putting out there?! Who knows… it’s pretty fucking cool stuff thats has some pretty damn good production, yet still keeping that raw sound to keep you grounded. After giving this album a spin, it made me want to break out some other records like Head by The Monkeys, The Sun Machine by Treasure Fleet, and that damn Pet Sounds record by The Beach Boys that we all own and I just ended up going through most of my record collection until I got to the “Pump Up The Volume Soundtrack” and then I knew I took a wrong turn somewhere… but still a good journey. ‘Moonlight Regions‘ is just the right mix of catchy hooks and imaginative melodies that will ease your mind and eagerly anticipating whatever these guys have to cook up next. So…. give this release a spin and enjoy your own musically journey.
