With ‘Cut A Silhouette‘, the legendary post-hardcore outfit Sparta has returned to absolutely demolish our eardrums in the best way possible, proving that some things truly do get bigger and better with age. Speaking of things getting bigger, this album dropped right around the same time I looked into my closet and realized a harsh, fabric-stretching truth: none of my shorts fit me anymore. In a bittersweet moment of personal growth, I had to pack up and donate every single pair of shorts I owned to charity because I officially went up a size and had to buy a completely new wardrobe. But just like my waistline, Sparta has expanded their sonic territory on this release, trading in any past hesitation for a massive, stadium-sized wall of sound that feels like a triumphant heavyweight victory lap.

The energy on this record is so infectious that it practically forces you to move, even if you are doing so in newly purchased, slightly more accommodating pants. A massive standout on the tracklist is “Crater”, which hits you right out of the gate with the kind of thunderous rhythm section that makes you want to flip a table in pure excitement. Then you roll right into “Without Your Hands“, a song featuring a soaring, anthemic chorus that will instantly get stuck in your head and likely stay there for weeks. Finally, “Mystery Of Missing” showcases the band operating at the absolute peak of their powers, brilliantly blending nostalgic melodic hooks with a refreshed, modern bite that keeps you guessing.

This release is a joyful reminder of why we fell in love with this band decades ago, packed with a renewed sense of urgency and fun. It is a bold, loud, and incredibly cohesive front-to-back listening experience that easily ranks among their finest work. So, while my old wardrobe is currently making someone else very happy, I am perfectly content sitting here in my spacious new shorts, blasting this kick-ass album, sweating outside Cactus Club in this little heatwave we’re having.

Be sure to check out Sparta live when they come to Milwaukee and play at Cactus Club on Saturday, 07/04/26 – Click here to get your tickets now before they sell out.
