New Plastik Abyss‘ by Dead Finks is a delightfully frantic reminder that guitar-driven music is alive, kicking, and refusing to get stuck in a box with its chaotic sound. Released via Bretford Records, this fourth full-length outing from the capital city’s premier art-punk outfit feels less like a traditional record and more like a brilliant panic attack you can actually dance to. The band manages to walk a razor-thin line between heavy-eyed sarcasm and absolute, heart-on-sleeve sincerity, delivering an album that sounds remarkably massive.

The sonic shift here leans into a surprisingly colorful confidence, trading in just enough of their historical clatter for gorgeous shoegaze textures and pop hooks that will get stuck in your head for days. A perfect example of this evolution is the standout track “Anodyne“, which builds a towering wall of shimmering guitars paired with hyper-melodic, dual vocal lines that are nothing short of infectious. On the flip side, the frantic energy of “Stolen Vehicle” keeps the band’s trademark twitchy spirit alive and well, proving they can still turn a room into a sweaty, chaotic bounce-house at a moment’s notice.

New Plastik Abyss‘ is a successful, accessible display of guitar-driven defiance that carves out its own glorious niche in a city otherwise obsessed with techno and startup culture. Joseph Thomas and company have crafted an album that feels incredibly fresh, bristling with dynamic clarity and a relentless drive that hooks you from the opening notes of “Innocence” to the final fading feedback. It is an essential, fiercely fun underground listen that proves being stubbornly tenacious pays off beautifully. Also, a huge THANK YOU to my buddy Gosha at Cactus Club for letting me know about his release. So cool!! Check it out today.
